4.1 Troubleshoot device management
4.1.a Console and VTY
Console and VTY (Virtual Teletype) are two common ways to access and manage network devices. The console port is a physical port on a device that allows you to connect a console cable to your computer or laptop and access the device's command-line interface (CLI) directly.
VTY, on the other hand, allows remote access to a device through a network connection. The VTY lines are virtual interfaces that are configured on a device to accept remote connections. To access a device's CLI using VTY, you need to use a Telnet or SSH client.
When troubleshooting device management, you should check the console and VTY connections to ensure they are properly configured and functioning. You should also verify the settings for console and VTY access, such as the login credentials and the maximum number of sessions allowed.
If you are experiencing issues accessing a device through the console or VTY, you should check the physical connection, network connectivity, and device configurations. You should also check for any error messages or logs that may indicate a problem with the console or VTY connections.
4.1.b Telnet, HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, SCP
Telnet, HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, and SCP are protocols used for device management. Troubleshooting device management involves identifying and resolving issues related to these protocols.
Telnet: Telnet is a protocol used for remote login to network devices. Troubleshooting Telnet issues can involve verifying that Telnet is enabled on the device, checking connectivity to the device, verifying that the correct port number is being used, and checking authentication settings.
